Offered is an incredibly rare piece of aviation history. This original WWII data plate was removed from a 1933 Boeing Model 247 civilian airliner that was impressed for military service by the Army Air Force during World War II. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, the United States was so unprepared for war that the Army Air Force had to impress scores of civilian aircraft into military service until the production lines could catch up with demand.

This data plate is from one of those aircraft that helped "hold the line" in the very early days of World War II. The Boeing Model 247 was the first modern airliner. The Model 247 that this data plate was removed from (MSN 1715) rolled off the Boeing production line in 1933 and entered service with National Air Transport as NC13333. In 1934, this aircraft went to United Airlines where it was operated as the City of Santa Barbara.

The 2nd picture shows this very aircraft, NC13333, being refueled in Chicago while in service with United Air Lines. United leased this aircraft to Western Air Express in 1935, and it remained in operation by Western until it was impressed by the Army Air Force for war service in 1942 and given the military designation C-73 and serial number 42-68370. The last picture shows what a typical C-73 looked like while in service with the AAF. The C-73 in the last picture is not the aircraft this data plate was removed from. The data plate is in beautiful condition for being almost 76 years old with only minor wear and scratches from use.

Someone took very good care of the date plate when they removed it! This is a great opportunity for a very advanced collector to acquire an incredibly rare data plate. You won't find another one!!
