This listing is for a WWII US Army Air Forces B3 Jacket. Material :This coat has a sheepskin body and a layer of horsehide on the arms to increased durability. When I bought this coat the back shoulder panels were both blown out so I replaced them with period sheepskin panels from another WWII sheepskin garment. Time Period :This coat is from WWII. Contract :When I repaired this jacket years ago I took the tag off and preserved it.
Size :This coat is a size 42. Length from bottom of collar to the bottom hem: 26.5. Condition :If you have any experience with US WWII sheepskin, you know it didnt have the best durability. The English somehow made their sheepskins to last and the American sheepskin tended to dry out and blow out.
As mentioned above, when I received this jacket the back two shoulder panels were beyond repair. I took some period sheepskin panels I had and cut them and repaired this jacket myself. The repair, and jacket, is now functional. Can you wear this jacket? This is 75+ year old sheepskin so please use your judgement when wearing. Also, there is a small seam on the back where the cotton thread has failed (green pencil is pointing to seam in picture). I would fix this myself, but I dont have the time right now. It just needs some reinforcing. The zipper works as well. The left side of the zipper when looking at the jacket is original. I replaced the right side from another period garment.
