Army Air Force (AAF) Tow Target Lamp Assembly, Type A-1 Specification No 94-32354. Typically, these were used inside the target towed by aircraft for night time gunnery practice during WW2.

Additional notes, Women Air Service Pilots (WASPs) could not fly combat missions but were allowed to fly dangerous target towing missions (using these type devices in the towed targets) in addition to ferrying and test flying.
