WW1 US Army Air Force Leather Flight Helmet 1-A Made By Western Electric Co

  

Here we have a Leather Flight Helmet 1-A Size Medium made by Western Electric Co. An original USAAF Helmet in very good condition. The Type 1-A Flying Helmet was the first flying helmet standardized by the United States Army Air Service in 1917.

It remained in use throughout the mid-1920s. This particular example retains its original label which states the size as medium. The helmet is in very good condition as can be seen in the pictures. It is made from soft brown leather and has a cotton lining and hard leather ear covers.

The helmet has a long adjustment lace up the back of the helmet as well as an adjustment strap on top of the helmet. The helmet shows use but the leather is supple and the helmet is intact and complete.
