Vintage WWII 8th Army Air Force Jacket Patch, Real Gold & Silver Bullion Thread

  

This is a very nice estate find. I have the distinct honor to offer this original World War II 8. Army Air Force jacket shoulder patch. This patch measures right at 2 7/8 inches across. From the information I received from the veterans family, this is British made.

The patch is hand embroidered in gold and silver metallic bullion thread (which is more like a flat metal ribbon) on a dark blue felted woven wool background. The wings and 8 are gold bullion thread, the star is in silver bullion thread and the center of the star in the lower part of the 8 is hand done in red cotton thread.

There is a twisted gold bullion border running around the outer edge of the patch. The condition of this patch is spectacular, the felt and red thread is still vibrant. The reverse of the patch is faced with black cloth that remains fully intact.

This patch exhibits evidence of having been on a uniform and has been carefully removed leaving two metal pins showing on the back that have been cut almost flush to the back cloth. Overall this patch looks like it did when it was removed from the uniform shortly after WWI. Look around, you will be hard pressed to improve on this condition. This has been in a humidity controlled and non-smoking environment and exhibits no offensive odors.
