Hamilton W10 MoD British Army & Royal Air Force Military Watch 1970's

  

This beautiful watch has a hand winding 649 (ETA 2750) 17 Jewel movement with hacking function which has just been serviced and is in perfect working order. I've tried to show it working in the first four photos where you can see the second hand moving. The watch is in great condition for it's age, any marks you can see in the photos are only seen because of the high definition photos, they are virtually unseen by eye. Please look at the photos closely to make your own mind up about the condition.

Issued to: British Army and Royal Air Force. Movement: 649 Calibre (ETA 2750) with hacking function for accurate time keeping (21,600 BPH).

Marking: Crows Foot & Tritium Symbol. A little insight into the history of these watches which were also made for the MoD by Smiths and CWC. The case back on this watch may be from a CWC as it shows the date letter 77, this is the year CWC took over production from Hamilton. This gives the watch some interesting history. The Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant (SQMS) or Company Quartermaster Sergeant (CQMS) were responsible for holding these watches on their stores accounts and issued them.

They were also responsible for maintaining them. The case back on this Hamilton could have been changed by the SQMS to maintain the watch, remembering the Hamilton and CWC were the same watch with CWC literally just adding their name in place of Hamilton, this meant that all the parts were identical. This watch is the Hamilton dating to 1973 to 1976 but with a CWC case back from 1977. This is a good indicator of military use and not just new old stock which never saw service.
