It all started a little more than a year ago. It was on April 6, 1942 that order No. 1 designated General (then Colonel) Lawson as commanding officer of Buckley Field. The first concrete for buildings was poured on May 18.

In the later part June a few men arrived on the post to prepare for activation, which occurred July 1. In the subsequent months this one time buffalo habitat has continued to expand and grow, training untold thousands of men for various phases of combat duty in the Air Force.
