Army Air Forces 56th Fighter Group Leather Squadron Patch

  
This is a current hand painted distinguished unit insignia of the 56. This group lost 18 pilots killed and 41 aircraft lost. This group had many aces during the war and included such pilots as Gabby Gabreski, Robert Johnson, Bud Mahurin, Hub Zemke and many others. This group flew P-47 Thunderbolts with distinction. Patch is multi layered leather and measures approximately 5 x 4.
